Hans Niessen is professor in cardiovascular pathology at the department of Pathology at the AUMC, location VUMC and AMC. He is studying tissue inflammation and regeneration. He has published 230 scientific papers and has supervised 27 PhD students. He is involved in BSc and MSc courses in the Cardiovascular Research Master and Medical Biology at the VU.
The research of Hans Niessen concentrates on the role of inflammation in tissue regeneration in ischemic and infectious diseases but also burn wounds, studying the pathophysiology and new therapeutic options, including anti-inflammatory therapies and stem cell therapy. This research line is financed by the industry, EFSD, NWO and Health Holland.
